Nov 13 Releases We Can't Wait to Dig Into

There is no shortage of killer music coming out this week. As we start diving more into upcoming release lists, singles and endlessly scrolling through Instagram, we are still very much interested in hearing from you about Chicago music coming out. Head below to read about a couple of Chicago bands with albums coming out this week that we’re seriously excited about, and other records we can’t wait to hear.

Luke Titus (Chicago)
PLASMA
Sooper Records

When one thinks of neo-soul electro pop, you can’t help but think Luke Titus’ upcoming effort, PLASMA, is nothing short of hitting the mark. Collabs with Sen Morimoto lends a little heat to an already stacked playlist. I mean, if you are a Nnamdi or Sen Morimoto fan, then you’re going to love this album!

The Flat Five (Chicago)
Another World
Bloodshot Records

Tell me one record, one artist, nay! One song from Bloodshot Records that doesn’t cut the mustard and I’ll stop right now. The Flat Five Chicago has been dropping singles this fall like golden leaves covering the sidewalk in front of your three-flat. Now, they’re coming around with their latest record Another World, and it is a lovely walk through a sunshine pop vibe. If you’re into that ‘60s Paris Chic sound, then this is definitely a record worth checking out.

The Blaze Velluto Collection (Quebec)
We Are Sunshine
Dare To Care Records

Out of the country? More like out of this world. The Blaze Velluto Collection channels a sound that hasn’t been forthcoming on the music scene since The Kinks. Seriously, get out and give the album a listen.

Cakes Da Killa x Proper Villians (Brooklyn, NY)
Muvaland EP
Defected Records

Cakes mixes electro pop with hip hop and the combo comes together with just a twinge of UK grime. Muvaland EP promises a full-on house centered sound cavalcade.

Aesop Rock (Portland, OR)
Spirit World Field Guide
Rhymesayers

This dude has been steadily rocking the charts for a couple decades. This solo effort is the first in a long time and promises delivering on what most Aesop Rock fans like in nasty beats and killer rhymes. Don’t expect any big name collabs on this one, though. It’s all pure, uncut Aesop.

Andrew Ashong & Kaidi Tatham (Belfast, UK)
Sankofa Season
Kitto Records

London lo-fi artist Andrew Ashong teams up with underground virtuoso Kaidi Tatham for a flow-y ride through hip hop as you’ve never really heard it. Think of the NYC underground in the early ‘00s and you’ve got a similar tract.

That’s it for this week. It bears repeating, we want to cover Chicago music, so if you have something coming out, please submit it!
