Nov 27 Releases We Can't Wait to Dig Into
There is no shortage of killer music coming out this week. As we start diving more into upcoming release lists, singles and endlessly scrolling through Instagram, we are still very much interested in hearing from you about Chicago music on the horizon. Head below to read about a couple albums coming out this week that we’re seriously excited about.
Mac Blackout (Chicago)
Love Profess
Trouble In Mind Records
Want something on the experimental fringe? Look no further than Mac Blackout’s upcoming album, Love Profess. Chicagoan Mark McKenzie dons the punk moniker Mac Blackout to deliver a jam-packed, 8-track EP of experimental jazz. You can get a taste of what that might sound and feel like on Bandcamp. We listened to “Love Profess” and “Wandering Spheres” and they’re a noisy flow of wild jazz soundscapes with purpose.
Radkey (Kansas City, MO)
Green Room
Little Man Records
Kansas City rock heroes, Radkey, are nothing short of kick-ass and we’re hoping big time that these folks roll through Chicago when this COVID shit-show is over with. The brothers-Radke bring a blend of Misfits-esque horror punk and pop. Seriously, check ‘em out and don’t lose hope that we’ll see them when the dust settles.
Suzie True (LA)
Saddest Girl At The Party
Get Better Records
They label themselves as “trashy pop” on Bandcamp, We’d say they’re garage/lo-fi, but who are we to judge? They definitely bring a vocal action that rolls in the same vein as Ratboys, but with that punk patina. Another band that is definitely on our radar for a live show (whenevs), this 11-track album drops tomorrow and is worth a listen and purchase.
Tiece (London, UK)
Nowhere, No Here
In-Spire Sounds
If you’re looking to add a bit of neo-soul to your diet, look no further. Tiece is a prolific contributor to multiple artists and soundscapes in the UK and her solo drop coming out tomorrow showcases her seductively soulful voice.
UPDATE: Looks like the album release was bumped to Jan 1, 2021, but in the meantime Tiece dropped a new single, “Lucky 13,” check out the video!
Tori Handsley (London, UK)
As We Stand
Cadillac Records
Adding a rather chill layer to the experimental jazz landscape, Tori Handsley demonstrates her abilities handily on her latest record, As We Stand. This is a listen that will soothe even the most savage beast. Happy holidays!
The Battery Farm (Manchester, UK)
Endless, Unstoppable Pain :) EP
Golden Believers Records
Honestly, We’ll let these guys tell their own story. This is from their Facebook page: “The Battery Farm - a Gutter Punk four-piece from Manchester playing visceral, punishing rock music infused with pain and passion. A guttural cry against a violent world, whose songs are borne of that violence. Part nihilism, part hope. Part rage, part joy. Trying to make sense of ourselves in a time that does not make sense at all. Life's a battery farm. It's a sick, sick world.” Need a little more doom and gloom in your diet during COVID? Eat it right up!
That’s it for this week, but some honorable mentions before we go include: NYC jazz trumpeter/composer/vocalist/talented-ass mofo, Leron Thomas who dropped his digital album ‘More Elevator Music’ in October, is releasing hard copies this week. Omara “Bombino” Moctar is dropping his ‘Live In Amsterdam’ record tomorrow and is definitely worth a listen.
It bears repeating, we want to cover Chicago music, so if you have something coming out, please submit it!
