NONE OF YOUR CONCERN

NONE OF YOUR CONCERN announced their arrival on the Chicago scene with the bumping single “SET ME ON FIRE” last August and have appeared on plenty of interesting bills ever since. With their debut album on the way this Spring they busted out of 2020 swinging with a remix of Secret Shame’s “Haunter” and have struck again this week with the brand new remix of Daymaker’s “MPC,” which is getting an exclusive premiere at Chicago Crowd Surfer! We asked the masked electronic specialists to answer a few questions for you to scope while taking in this atmospheric re-imagining of a track off Daymaker’s excellent Let the Sun Fall.

NOYC: NONE OF YOUR CONCERN

Your new remix of Daymaker's "MPC" is your second track to drop within a month. Is there a larger project in the works or are these just one off remixes?

NOYC: They are both just one off remixes, but we definitely plan to release more remixes in future.

Any new originals on the way soon? Looking forward to more recorded material from NOYC!

NOYC: Yep! Our debut album Basement Pleasures is coming out May 1st, and our release show will be that same night at Sleeping Village w/ Wingtips!

When choosing a song to remix are there certain qualities you look for?

NOYC: Honestly, it's just a vibe. We look for songs and artists we connect to or find interesting.

There is a long tradition of masks in electronic music, when you decided to wear masks was it in homage to any artist or for other reasons?

NOYC: It just speaks to our aesthetic of anonymity. The masks, our name, and the way we like to explore different genres keeps us out of any specific bubble. We also want NOYC to be viewed more as an entity, not two people on stage playing electronic music.

Not much is out there yet on the two of you. Can you fill us in on a bit of the history of NOYC?

NOYC: One of us is a classically trained performer, teacher and south side dance instructor; and the other fronts a local LGBTQ+ punk band. We've been friends for awhile and have been working in the music industry separately for many years. One day we decided to try making a song together, and it immediately clicked.

Any Chicago artists that you feel are flying under the radar that deserve more attention?

NOYC: We don't know about any radars haha, but we're really digging a lot of artists in Chicago right now. Off the top of our heads, some favorites would be Mykele Deville, Mother Nature, Pixel Grip, Wingtips, and 'magin'.
