Snow Ellet (Chicago)
Suburban Indie Rock Star
Self-Released

The self-proclaimed ‘Owen Wilson of Rock N Roll’ gives us a catchy collection of pop punk tunes with Suburban Indie Rock Star. Somewhat sunny, nostalgic, angsty; the record hits all the spots without being overly complicated in its composition, proof of Snow Ellet’s talented songwriting abilities. An excellent showcase of the Chicago scene, don’t pass up on this release.

Frances Luke Accord (Chicago)
Sunnyside EP
Two-Dale Records

A warm, beautiful folk EP that you can’t help but feel calm while listening to it. Delicate acoustic guitars and cascading melodies surrounding warm, soft harmonies almost give an intrinsic sense of hope to each of these songs. Perfect listening for long walks on sunny days.

Jane Inc (Toronto)
Number One
Telephone Explosion

A well-crafted solo debut, Jane Inc delivers wavy, retro, indie-pop that will sure to make you groove. The album is dripping with synths, driving bass lines, and hauntingly mysterious vocal ballads. Recruiting the talents of Steve Chahley (US Girls) to co-produce, this record is meticulously crafted with punchy pop accents and charming layers of fuzz that truly create a sound of its own.

Lo Talker (Athens, GA)
A Comedy of Errors
Arts & Crafts

Another juggernaut debut effort this week; A Comedy of Errors is a psychedelic indie-rock record with harmonic builds, melodic guitars, trippy fuzz, and lyrical depth. The production on this one is top-notch, despite using a dizzying array of sounds and layers, not one element feels out of place or unbalanced. Andrew Shepard’s vocal talents display an impressive range, both in technique and in theatrics. A truly unique, and infectiously listenable record.

Middle Kids (Sydney, AUS)
Today, We’re The Greatest
Domino Recordings

The long-awaited follow up to their 2018 debut, Today, We’re The Greatest reminds us that Middle Kids are not a passing indie pop trend. This record is more refined, more emotional with peaks of mind-blowing instrumentation that could only be achieved by musicians of a certain maturity.

Stoner Control (Portland)
Sparkle Endlessly
Self-Released

Another great piece of nineties-leaning alt rock, Sparkle Endlessly delivers cloudy-weather angsty rock that Portland is known for. This band and Snow Ellet (from above) could and should play shows together once pandemic is done wreaking havoc on the scene.

We’ve got a couple of international releases to mention; dad sports from Ontario, 24/7 Diva Heaven out of Berlin, and Michael Beach from Melbourne.

It bears repeating, we want to cover Chicago music, so if you have something coming out, please submit it!
