New Releases We Can't Wait to Dig Into
There is no shortage of excellent music coming out this week. As we start diving more into upcoming release lists, singles and endlessly scrolling through Instagram, we are still very much interested in hearing from you about Chicago music on the horizon. Head below to read about a couple albums coming out this week that we’re excited about.
Waltzer (Chicago)
Time Traveler
Side Hustle Records
For any ritualistic daydreamer looking for a soundtrack, your search is over. Waltzer plans to drop their debut LP, Time Traveler, on the 29th. Judging from their first single, it’s going to kick ass. “Lantern” is fuzzy and drips with honey. Bandleader, Sophie Sputnik belts out echoey vocals across a soundscape that lands somewhere in a John Waters movie.
Lil Durk (Chicago)
The Voice Deluxe
Only The Family
Prolific Chicago rapper Lil Durk is set to drop The Voice Deluxe this week. The album promises his auto-tuned, melodic vocals accented by sizzling staccato synth beats. Even hotter is his recent collab with Atlanta rapper Nechie called, “Like A Dream.”
The Sonder Bombs (Cleveland)
Clothbound
Take This To Heart Records
If this album is anything like the debut, Modern Female Rockstar, we’re all in for a real treat. There is bouncy rock heard in “Crying Is Cool” lending to what is sure to be rollicking, organized chaos throughout. For this record, the journey is truly the impetus. Tie your shoes and get ready for a ride.
Lionmilk (Los Angeles)
I Hope You Are Well
Leaving Records
Lionmilk’s ambient, avant-garde jazz is beautiful, meditational. If you find yourself in a retrospective phase, on a journey inward for self healing, I Hope You Are Well may just be the perfect score.
Albertine Sarges (Germany)
The Sticky Fingers
Piccadilly Records
Three singles, each completely and uniquely extreme from each other where Albertine Sarge's voice and essence as well as the high degree of artistry unites them. "Fish" is surrealism at its most evocative. The imagery is dreamily ridiculous, exciting, and perfectly descriptive to the scene she is painting. Production of the song itself is echoing, evoking an aquarium. We just plain can't wait to hear what else the album has in store for us.
TOLEDO (Brooklyn)
Jockeys of Love EP
Ruff & Tuff Entertainment
TOLEDO is the Brooklyn duo of Jordan Dunn-Pilz and Dan Alvarez. When you hear “Dog Has Its Day”, you’ll get road trip music with hints of yacht rock. The kind of soft vehicle perfectly designed to deliver messages on subjects like anxiety, depression and alcoholism.
That’s it for this week, but some honorable mentions are Arlo Parks and Cobalt Chapel out of the UK. We’d also like to give a shout to Good Bison out of LA, Indy alt-rock at its finest. We’ll see you next week with more outstanding picks.
It bears repeating, we want to cover Chicago music, so if you have something coming out, please submit it!
