Dan Whitaker (Chicago)
Movin’ On With You
Self Released

Having fronted multiple roots rock and country bands, Chicago folk singer Dan Whitaker is starting his solo career off with a remastered re-release of his ‘99 bootleg album, Movin’ On With You. Capturing the chilling beauty of Whitaker’s voice, Movin’ On proves his long standing contributions to the Chicago music scene and primes us all for an upcoming Spring solo release.

Hospital Bracelet (Chicago)
South Loop Summer
Counter Intuitive Records

To say this record is a longtime coming is an understatement. South Loop Summer is a great collection of rock music that proves to be powerful and vulnerable in the same breath. “Sober Haha Jk Unless” perfectly illustrates this with frontperson, Eric Christopher’s vocals, open and honest, surrounded by the raw power that Hospital Bracelet belts out musically.

Kaz Mirblouk (Los Angeles)
Careless By Contrast
Lollipop Records

This album is all hot summer ‘80s vibe and just drips of a west coast sound. Powerful and pointed, Careless has smatterings of ground-out metal riffs drizzled with Mirblouk’s velvet voice. “Dozer” is a standout single that doesn’t disappoint. The album drops tomorrow and deserves a deep dive.

Erick The Architect (Brooklyn)
Future Proof
Self Release

Co-founding member of the Flatbush Zombies is stepping out in his solo debut, Future Proof. With the EP dropping tomorrow, take a listen to the first single, “Let It Go” featuring Loyle Carner and FARR and see what all the fuss is about.

Palberta (NYC)
Palberta5000
Wharf Cat Records

This power trio out of New York City is dropping their fifth full-length this week. The album is railed as sticking to their hard-to-place rock sound amping up vocal harmonies along the way. Give a quick listen to “Corner Store” and you’ll get the idea.

BelushiSpeedBall.jpg

Belushi Speed Ball (Louisville, KY)
Stella 1 and Stella 2 EP
Sonablast Records

Definitely saving the best for last, here. If thrash is your flavor, then Belushi Speed Ball is the right dish. This is a 23-minute double EP that will rip you from end to end and leave you wondering, WTF.

That’s it for this week, but some honorable mentions are Madeline Kinney who has an EP coming out (excited!) and Toronto four-piece, Kiwi jr. We’ll see you next week with more outstanding picks.

It bears repeating, we want to cover Chicago music, so if you have something coming out, please submit it!
