New Releases We Can't Wait to Dig Into
We’ve got more great new releases this week! From desert-folk to power-pop to alternative-rock, there’s gems for listeners of every kind. Check out these previews of records that we are stoked to hear this week. We are always on the hunt for great new Chicago music, as always, let us know if something should be on our radar!
Beach Bunny (Chicago)
Blame Game
Mom+Pop Music
Blame Game is the highly anticipated follow up to their latest record, Honeymoon- which has garnered much success for the local indie-pop band despite the industry being sidelined for most of the year. “Good Girls (Don’t Get Used)” kicks up the angst and delivers a punchy technicolor anthem, a fun departure from the slightly more melodic tones of the last album. Between dropping an EP and a Jimmy Kimmel performance this week, Beach Bunny is here to stay and we like it that way.
The Deals (Chicago)
Clear and Severe
Self-Released
Eclectic indie rock band The Deals release their debut album this week, and introduce themselves with garage pop guitars and whimsical yet emotional lyricism. After a couple seasons of singles, we’re happy to see this band take a strong step forward into the scene and hope to see them play live someday soon!
shame (London)
Drunk Tank Pink
Dead Oceans
The follow up record for these brit alt-rockers is shaping up to be a dark, edgy thrill ride through a post-punk soundscape. shame’s career has begun with much critical acclaim, and from what we’ve heard so far, this album is sure to deliver.
Pearl Charles (Los Angeles)
Magic Mirror
Counter Intuitive Records
Dubbed as the “stoner Lana Del Rey”, Pearl Charles brings us back to her dreamy desert wonderland with Magic Mirror. Her sound perfectly captures this unique alt-country-folk-pop sound that Los Angeles has secretly become home to. Blending steel guitars and sixties-esque harmonies, this genre-bending record is polished and pleasing for listeners of any kind.
Pom Poko (Oslo)
Cheater
Bella Union
Norway’s favorite colorful noise-pop outfit brings us their second full-length, Cheater. Steeped in synthy melodies and brightly colored yet distorted shredding, this delightfully punky project sounds like a sour-patch kid.
Kate Davis (New York City)
Strange Boy
Solitaire Recordings
Emotional and delicate, Kate Davis releases a fuzzy-pop cover album of the Daniel Johnston’s Retired Boxer spliced with tracks of recorded stories and memories of the late singer-songwriter. Davis breathes warmth into the songs of the bedroom pop juggernaut, who had struggled with bipolar disorder. This album is released In collaboration with the Hi, How Are You Project, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing open conversations around mental health.
Some honorable mentions worth noting- Portland’s Allred & Broderick, Danielle Durak out of Phoenix, and the project Comfy from Rochester, NY.
Don’t forget, we love to cover Chicago music, so if you have something coming out, please let us know!
