Decibel Crawl Fest

Summer’s last bashes are on their way to close out September, and one of the premiere local fests is this weekend. Decibel Crawl Fest is returning for three days of music celebrating the work of P.O.C., LGBTQ Folx, and Women. Plenty of top local talent is on display across multiple venues, including all the Why? Records crew, Musa Reems, Cid Ikarus, TALSounds, No Men, and many many more! Several of the cities top DIY spaces are playing host, with a few acts at Cafè Mustache and Uncommon Ground. We caught up with organizer Clyde Moreau to get the lowdown of the event, and he was gracious enough to answer a few of our prying questions. Check out the event page for more info on Decibel Crawl Fest. If you don’t have the patience for the crowds at do312 Block Party this is the festival for you!

CM:
Clyde Moreau, organizer of Decibel Crawl Fest.

This is the second year for Decibel Crawl Fest. What was the moment where you decided to start a music festival and what are some challenges that you've ran into that you didn't expect?

CM: In the back of my mind, I always wanted to organize a large scale event with local artists but never felt qualified to do so. The biggest challenge is always merging a good venue with a lineup in a way that feels unique. There's countless predictable lineups where the venue and performers seemed very lackluster or unambitious.

You have a very eclectic bill featuring the whole Why? Records crew, with punk mavens No Men, the experimental bliss of TALsounds, and electronic dance from Cid Ikarus, plus so much more! Where do you see the ties that bind such a disparate lineup?

CM: Thank you! I think the commonality within all these acts is their drive and ability to make art that challenges our city. These performers are not only inventive, but very self-aware and move with intention.

What went right the first year and what did you learn and changes that can be expected in this years iteration?

CM: The turnout from last year and responses from attendees for our first year still blows me away. I think this year my challenge was to aim to book "bigger" acts, but still have the feeling that you were witnessing something exclusive and felt invested in the community.

Who would be your dream booking for next year's fest and if you could hold it at your dream venues, what would they be?

CM: Sen Morimoto, Fire - Toolz, and RP BOO. Empty Bottle, Lincoln Hall, and Sleeping Village.

You have anything to add about Decibel Crawl Fest?

CM: I want people to feel welcome. If you see me, stop me, and give me a hug. Let's network and build together. See you at the fest this weekend!
