DEC 4 Releases We Can't Wait to Dig Into

There is no shortage of killer music coming out this week. As we start diving more into upcoming release lists, singles and endlessly scrolling through Instagram, we are still very much interested in hearing from you about Chicago music on the horizon. Head below to read about a couple albums coming out this week that we’re seriously excited about.

Joan of Arc (Chicago)
Tim Melina Theo Bobby
Joyful Noise Recordings

Not ones to stray away from critical music norms, Joan of Arc drops their latest on Dec 4. You get what you’ve been getting for the last decade-plus from Joan of Arc, mixing droning lyrics with fuzz guitar, dreamy sound layers, and a myriad of low-key tunage.

Dave Vettriano (Chicago)
Exercise
Self Release

Pre-released tracks from this album are genuinely simple, but layered to the point that whilst listening, one could begin to open the mind to deep thought. What makes this album interesting is the likes of V.V. Lightbody and other stellar artists lending expertise to the tracks.

The Mary Veils (Philly)
Slacker Paint
PNKSLM Recordings

Philly garage rock is as awesome as its people. Top marks to The Mary Veils for preparing a rattling lo-fi sound that is guaranteed to raise a few eyebrows and bob a couple heads. Think Dehd’s fuzzy cousin from the City of Brotherly Love.

Foxanne (NYC)
It’s Real (I Knew It)
GoodEye Records

Foxanne is a belter, there’s no doubting that. Coming out of NYC with her debut LP, she’s definitely an artist worth checking out if you’re looking to add some serious chops to pop playlists.

Belted Sweater (LA)
I’m Fucking Delightful
Terrible Records

Probably the best record on today’s list, Belted Sweater launches supersonic sounds draped over fuzzed-out vocals. Part of Belted Sweater’s charm is found in the artwork on their album cover. Nothing says, “I’m fucking delightful” like two leather clad,  Cthulhu-esque, figures.

an only child (NYC)
Prepare the Body
Unknown

Soulful and sweet to the taste, an only child is another NYC artist definitely worth checking out if you haven’t yet. Prepare the Body won’t disappoint when looking for something to kick on for unwinding at the end of the day.

That’s it for this week, but some honorable mentions before we go include: Lee Paradise out of Toronto dropping The Fink that is packed with spooky, funky grooves; and Fellow Hollow, a Columbus, Ohio band with lovely harmonies and dreamy acoustic pop music.

It bears repeating, we want to cover Chicago music, so if you have something coming out, please submit it!
