Sonny Falls (Chicago)
All That Has Come Apart / Once Did Not Exist
Plastic Miracles

Coming Tuesday the 15th, this long anticipated release from Ryan “Hoagie Wesley” Ensley ends 2020 with one of it’s most interesting and thought provoking records. Most of the tracks have been released slowly over the course of the year, but hearing them all together is a testament to Ensley’s talent for songcraft and storytelling.

Gal Gun (Chicago)
Critical Hit
Self Release

The second record from these indie rock upstarts drops on Saturday. With five tracks of echoing harmonies and fuzzy guitars already out there, we’re looking forward to the whole shebang. This one is sure to hit your inner teenage self in all the right places.

Wreath Of Hogs (Chicago)
Change Is Easy EP
Self Release

Andrew Rolfsen’s follow-up EP to this fall’s Green House, Green Couch drops Tuesday. The five song EP resembles the informal feel of the record and Rolfsen’s loose, yet engaging style. Rolfsen always embraces an experimental and accessible style within a single sonic framework which is far more successful than it sounds.

Foxy Shazam (Cincinnati, OH)
BURN
EEE OOO AH

One of our favorite glam rock powerhouses is sure to produce an excellent end of year jam. If power ballad single “Dreamer” and rock swinging title track “Burn” are any indication this will be a must listen sanity reprieve through the holiday.

DAYDREAM (Portland, OR)
MYSTIC OPERATIVE
Dirt Cult

Noise punk wonders DAYDREAM drop their newest onslaught on your eardrums. Rife with plenty of screaming guitars and pounding drums, sure to piss off the in-laws as you blast it through your required Xmas zoom calls.

That’s it for this week. Some other great finds this week include a Gang of Four box set that any vinyl head must have, yet another Guided By Voices record (Pollard just can’t stop writing), and Thee Oh Sees third album of 2020 drops as they share a remix album with Panther Rotate.

It bears repeating, we want to cover Chicago music, so if you have something coming out, please submit it!

This is our last music preview of the year, but look out for plenty more features and reviews next week, leading up to our Year In Review!
