Earlier this month Chicago folk rocker Andrew Robert Palmer dropped a self titled EP that is worth a listen or two. His compelling vocals and storytelling chops are on full display with highlights “...To the Lake!” and “Northside Blues Confusion” bringing out the Chicago centric themes that are charming examples of embracing your environment and writing what you know.

Gritty and grindy, with a new wave pop aesthetic that is made for the dive bar dance floor, the debut from Montreal five piece Pottery hits on all the right levels. No 1. Is a garage rock slash indie smasher that has a breathtaking pulse that just doesn’t quit.   

Pottery is opening for FONTAINES D.C. at Lincoln Hall on September 15th. Tix are $15.

London’s dream pop outfit Mellow Gang has put out their debut long player Adjourn, which is chock full of tracks that sweep you off your feet.

An old school bluesy throwback trio straight from the streets of a New York long past, DADDY LONG LEGS is an aberration of modern music. Part psychobilly, part blues, part old school rock ‘n’ roll Lowdown Ways is all the way entertaining.

Schubas is hosting the blues hybrid trio on July 5th. Tix are $12.

Crooners are hard to come by these days but Jonathan Rice fits the bill. With an oldies rock n’ roll soul and the songwriting chops to back it up The Long Game is a fitting example of the old being made new again.

Put together as an accompanying soundtrack to the folk legend Ani Difranco’s new autobiography “No Walls and the Recurring Dream.” No Walls Mixtape is full of reworked acoustic versions of all her hits from across her career. Do we need to convince you further? Yeah, thought not.

A hard edged americana act fronted by Wonder Years singer Dan Campbell, Aaron West & The Roaring Twenties is an avenue for his softer side and Routine Maintenance fills the gaps between Wonder Years records just fine.
