WHAT WE’VE BEEN JAMMING TO

ISSUE #64 / June 13, 2019

V.V. Lightbody
Car Alarm

A wonderful ditty from one of our favorite local indie rockers, V.V. Lightbody. She says she wanted “Car Alarm” to feel “like deep summer,” and with its sweltering tone, it’s clear what she means.

She’ll be at The Empty Bottle June 21st as part of duo Valebol at Divino Niño’s record release party. Tix are $10.

Whitney
Giving Up

Giving Up” is the first single of Whitney’s new record Forever Turned Around, set to release August 30th. If this gorgeous track is any indication, the Chiciago stars are sure to make another huge splash.

Whitney will be making an appearance at Pitchfork Music Fest on Sunday July 21st. Tix for the iconic fest are still on sale, starting at $85.

(Sandy) Alex G
Gretel

Another first single from a new release comes from a fav of ours, (Sandy) Alex G. He’s dropping House of Sugar on September 13th, and “Gretel” is one of the best tracks of the week!

He’s at Lollapalooza this year on Sunday August 4th. Tix are still available at $130 and up.

Jay Som.jpg

Jay Som
Superbike

Jay Som’s infectious first single from new record Anak Ko, set to hit shelves August 23rd. “Superbike” is one of those earworms that just won’t let go.

She is also hitting Pitchfork on Saturday July 20th. Tix are $85 and up. She’ll be swinging through Lincoln Hall on October 18th with Gia Margaret and Boy Scouts in support. Tix are $17.

Japanese Breakfast
Head Over Heels

Michelle Zauner isn’t known for covers as Japanese Breakfast, but this cover of “Head Over Heels” had us jamming out, mellow style.

Another Lolla participant. You can catch Japanese Breakfast on Friday August 2nd. Tix are still available at $130 and up. And she has an after-show that night at Lincoln Hall that is sadly Sold Out.

Sløtface
Telepathetic

A catchy new single from Norway’s pop punk masters Sløtface. “Telepathetic” will stick with you for days.

Kate Tempest
Holy Elixir

We missed “Holy Elixir” a week back, but it’s so good we needed to make sure you checked it out. We’re not the only ones to wave the Kate Tempest flag high; critics everywhere are waiting with anticipation for The Book of Traps and Lessons, due this Friday, June 14th.

Bon Iver
Hey, Ma

Two new tracks from the master of mellow Justin Vernon. Bon Iver debuted the recordings at All Points East last weekend after his set.

The artist from Eau Claire is appearing at Summerfest in Milwaukee on June 29th and at Allstate Arena October 4th.

Carla Geneve
Carla Geneve EP

You know we love our Australian artists, and Carla Geneve is the latest to hold us in her grip. Her self-titled EP is one of our favorite debuts of the week.

Temples
Hot Motion

Holy moly! A new track from the British wonders Temples! We can’t get enough of “Hot Motion”!

What a party Halloween at the Metro is going to be with Temples leading the charge! Tix are going for $24.

Cosmo Gold
Waiting On the City

A hot debut from LA quartet Cosmo Gold. Waiting on the City brings smooth indie rock vibes to the City of Angels.

Kesha
Rich, White, Straight Men

What a crazy circus-like track from Kesha. With “Rich, White, Straight Men,” the artist stretches her style into the abstract to fantastic results.

Kesha is at Ravinia on September 8th. Tix start at $33.
